Reunion Details
What a wonderful weekend!
Over the weekend of July 17-18th, 2015 the Waynesboro Area Senior High Class of 1970 celebrated their 45 Year Reunion.
On Friday morning, golfers from both the Class of 1970 and the Class of 1980 held a golf outing at South Mountain golf course, hosted by former teacher and basketball coach Dick George. The course provided breakfast, and each player received a goody bag of golf balls and tees.
Friday evening, both classes attended a picnic at the home of Mark and Patti McLaughlin, in Rouzerville. Entertainment was provided by local entertainers Dave Snader, and the duo of Bobby Baker and Russ Daley – who are also known as “Soup”. There was chicken prepared by Gus and Ted’s Tavern of Waynesboro, and many of the attendees brought covered dish items, as well as beverages. There were 100 plus people in attendance from the two classes.

Saturday, a small but enthusiastic group of golfers from the Class of 1970 held an outing at the Waynesboro Country Club. Goody bags were provided with Class of ’70 embroidered towels commemorating the reunion, as well as balls, tees, and accessories.
Saturday evening, the Class of 1970 held their dinner dance at the Waynesboro Country Club. There were over 90 in attendance, counting class members, guests, and former teacher Gerald Kowallis. Tables were adorned with centerpieces prepared by Eichholz Flowers of Waynesboro. Local DJ Kenny Smetzer was on hand to provide music throughout the evening.
Class members gathered outside, and photographer David Mackley assembled them into the group photo shown below. Then, the class was welcomed by the reunion committee, who thanked everyone for coming, and sent out special thanks to many who helped organize the weekend events. The invocation was presented by classmate Rev. Steve Sheldon. The attendees enjoyed a served dinner of one of four entrees chosen with their reservations. This was followed by a “make your own sundae” dessert bar.
After dinner, everyone was entertained by two of the most talented members of the class, Cindy (Burger) Knauer and Stan Beard. Their medley of songs from “our generation” had everyone in the house delighted and singing along. It was, as in past years, the highlight of the evening. For the remainder of the evening the dance floor remained fully populated with classmates and guests, dancing like it was 1970 again, as the DJ provided a background of music from our era and beyond.
